The Summer I Turned Pretty Teases Season 3 with Premiere Date Announcement: 'Officially Rolling' (2024)

The gang is back in Cousins Beach, but fans still have a good while to wait before seeing the third installment of The Summer I Turned Pretty.

On Tuesday, May 14, the Prime Video series' official Instagram shared the first look at season 3, with a video of stars Lola Tung, Christopher Briney, Gavin Casalegno, Sean Kaufman and Rain Spencer playing volleyball together on the beach.

"See you Summer 2025!" Tung, 21, said to the camera with a smile, giving fans the first confirmation of when the highly-anticipated third season will hit the streaming service.

"We’re officially rolling on #TheSummerITurnedPretty Season 3," reads the post's caption. "11 episodes coming your way. see you in Cousins in 2025 🫶."

In January, a source told PEOPLE that the show was "eyeing" a spring start to filming season 3, which was renewed in August 2023, but "nothing firm" had been announced at that point.

While the series, which is based on Jenny Han's trilogy of books, was officially greenlit for season 3 ahead of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, production was delayed as a result of the months-long work stoppage.

The cast has been vocal about their excitement to return to Cousins Beach for more of the beloved series, which debuted with season 1 in 2022, and was picked up for a second season before it even aired.

In January, Briney, 26, who plays one of Belly's (Tung) love interests, Conrad Fisher, told PEOPLE that he was looking forward to getting back into the swing of things.

"We were supposed to do it last year, so it's been a long time coming," he said, though at the time he admitted he had "no clue" about what was to come in the story.

Casalegno, 24, who plays Jeremiah Fisher, Conrad's younger brother and Belly's other love interest, similarly shared his excitement to get back to Wilmington, North Carolina for more earlier this year.

"I think everyone is excited for season 3. To finish the story — at least what Jenny's vision is — I think that'll be super fun," he told Entertainment Tonight in February. "I think we're all looking forward to just being back together. We always have so much fun on the beaches, playing volleyball, going to cool restaurants, and trying out new spots. We're excited to get back together."

Season 3 will likely follow Han’s third and final novel in the franchise, We'll Always Have Summer. The book takes place two years after the events of It’s Not Summer Without You as Belly once again finds herself questioning where her heart lies between the Fisher brothers — only in the third book, she finally makes a decision. At the end of season 2, fans saw Belly definitively choose Jeremiah over Conrad after the gang saved the Fisher's Cousins Beach house after Suzannah Fisher's death.

Han kept tight-lipped about what — if any — changes there will be in the new season, as she said she originally “went into the show with an open mind” about how she could “explore new stories” while still honoring book fans.

“To me, the fun of the show is to watch it and be able to experience it as the story is meant to be told, which is where you're not sure of the ending,” she told PEOPLE in August. “It's kind of the pain and the pleasure of storytelling is when I go to the movies, I don't want to know the ending. I really want to be surprised and I want to be on that journey, even though it does cause me anxiety as I'm watching. So I know that it can make the fans crazy, but I'm really always trying to preserve their experience and for them to have the best possible experience as the audience.”
