At launch EA SPORTS PGA TOUR will boast a total of 30 golf courses including 28 real-life and 2 fantasy courses. Each course offers a unique experience with a variety of gameplay and visual features to explore. The courses are designed with stunning quality using Frostbite technology allowing players to immerse themselves in the finer details of the game like never before.

To achieve the most true-to-life course visuals Augusta National the home of the Masters and other courses were meticulously mapped using state-of-the-art technologies like photogrammetry scanning drone technology and survey-grade GPS. Custom LiDAR helicopter flights were also conducted over each course in the game scanning at lower altitudes and slower speeds to achieve a higher level of realism and data-point-density than publicly available sources.

These technologies typically used to discover underground gold mines and oil reserves allowed for pin-point accuracy down to the blade of grass for many courses in-game. Each course's scan has been transferred into EA SPORTS PGA TOUR to ensure the most accurate depiction possible. With these advancements players can expect an unparalleled golfing experience.

Career Mode Gameplay

Not only did we scan the greens but our terrain map also produced precise renderings of all on-course elements including clubhouses vegetation bridges tee markers rock formations water and more. In order to achieve the highest level of detail possible we personally visited each of these prestigious courses to gain a full understanding of how they play in real life. From walking the holes to consulting with course superintendents we meticulously mapped and recorded the unique conditions of each golf course during these in-person visits over the years.

We even documented the distinct cuts of grass and how the ball behaves on them as well as any upcoming changes planned for future seasons to provide a comprehensive picture of these courses and how they play both now and in the future. Whether you're playing The Old Course at St. Andrews Links or The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort our technology allows you to experience the distinct differences of each course just as if you were there in person.

Our aim was to create the most visually stunning courses in the game, inspired by the works of classic American landscape artists. We accomplished this by implementing a lighting system that changes the look of each course based on the time of day. We wanted to showcase each course or hole in its best light, so we created three different "tee" times - morning, mid-day, and late afternoon - across four distinct "Biomes": Humid subtropical, Mediterranean, Oceanic, and Desert. Each of these biomes has its own unique lighting conditions, level of contrast, clouds, atmospheric haze, and other factors that give each course a unique appearance based on its location and the time of day.

However, creating stunning visuals was only one part of our goal to make each course feel true to life. We also implemented Course Dynamics in Pure Strike gameplay to accurately simulate the behavior of a ball on every green in the game. Each course is tuned to behave exactly as it does in real life, impacting the height of a ball's bounce, the speed of its roll, the impact on ball spin, and the launch of the ball, which all vary from course to course.

Each course has its own nuances, including the speed and firmness of the fairway and the length and firmness of the first cut. The ball reacts to these subtleties, resulting in a variety of ball behaviors that differ from course to course. For example, you will notice a difference in how the ball rolls on the firm and fast fairways of The Old Course at St Andrews Links compared to those of Harbour Town. Similarly, the ball will behave differently across different terrains like pine straw, firm fairway, and soft fairways.

In addition to the behavior on the ground, the ball's behavior in the air is also affected by the course dynamics and altitude. For instance, balls will travel further on courses above sea-level than those on the coast. Therefore, you will be able to feel the difference in how your ball behaves in the air as well as on the ground.
