  Finance Talk #3: Investor Relationship?What does it mean by investor relationship officer?It's NOT just a PR specialist who knows a little bit of finance and accounting.You might think that an Investor Relationship Officer, also known as an IRO, is a professional who manage and maintain relationships between a company and its investors. Their primary responsibility is to effectively communicate with existing and potential shareholders, analysts, and other members of the investment community.Well, yes and no. The concept itself is generally correct, yet it hasn't reached the core of it. An IRO's primary job should be #lowering #down the #cost #of #equity (CoE) of his/her company. And why is that? When a board of shareholder is faithful and stable enough, there shouldn't be much volitility regarding its stock price. Because there will be limited trading volume on the market-everyone likes the stock and decides to hold it. If so, the stock price will not be having strong correlation with the market. From a corporate finance perspective, you will then have a low Beta which eventually leads to a low CoE. Then, you can expect a juicy weighted average cost of capital (WACC) which can be further translated into a better enterprise value given that discounted cashflow is still one of the most popular methods adopted by the market.So IROs, don't just be a PR specialist!
