There are many powerful melee weapons in Baldur’s Gate 3. Some have a high damage dice, allowing for a powerful attack. Others have supportive properties which can make allies stronger or considerably cripple foes.
By default, all melee weapons can use Strength as their Ability Score. However, Finesse weapons in BG3 can instead switch to Dexterity for damage and accuracy. This means some weapons are better suited to certain classes and builds. A hulking axe might be great for a Barbarian or Paladin but unsuitable for a stealthy Rogue.
7 Duke Ravengard’s Longsword
Duke Ulder Ravengard carries his own personal weapon. He won’t give it up willingly, which must be obtained through dastardly means. The most direct means is to let Ravengard die in battle and loot his corpse. However, this can cause Wyll’s personal quest to fail. Another method is to steal the sword using the Sleight of Hand skill. Duke Ravengard will also temporally join as a follower during the Act 3 quest Rescue Duke Ravengard. You can manually use the “Throw” command to place the longsword on the ground.
Revengard’s weapon is a +1 Longsword that also grants free +2 Charisma stat. When the wielder defeats an enemy, allies in 9m gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier. This makes it a fantastic weapon for close-range diplomatic classes like Bard, Paladin, or Warlock. The sword also offers Commander’s Strike, which allows another character to attack with their reaction.
6 Stillmaker
Stillmaker is a powerful dagger found late in the game. You must go to the Open Hand Temple on Wyrm’s Crossing as part of Inspector Valeria’s request. This is outside the city of Baldur’s Gate 3’s first main hub of Lower City. Head down into the basement via the Ornate Wooden Hatch. Down the long path will be several corpses of ghoul-like monsters. Ignore them and look into the nearby hole to discover Stillmaker.
Stillmaker is a +2 Dagger. It is a Finesse weapon, allowing users to switch to Dexterity for attack and damage rolls. More importantly, this melee weapon grants free use of the Hold Person spell. This makes it a fantastic off-hand weapon for a Rogue. Cast Hold Person, then easily unleash sneak attack damage on the frozen victim. Pair it with another solid main-hand weapon, and you will have one of the deadliest dual-wield combos.
5 Silver Sword Of The Astral Plane
The Silver Sword is the favored weapon of Commander Voss. Getting him to drop the Greatsword in Act 1 with the Command spell is possible. However, his Saving Throws are incredibly high at that point. Instead, it is more likely to be gained in Act 3. Agree with Raphael’s deal to obtain the Orphic Hammer and continue the quest The Githyanki Warrior. Speak to Voss and promise to free Orpheus. He will hand over his Greatsword as gratitude.
The Silver Sword of the Astral Plane is a +3 Greatsword. This melee weapon has the Soulbreaker attack that has a chance of Stunning the target. Its other features are only unlocked for a Githyanki, making it an ideal weapon for Lae’zel. This includes an extra +1d6 Psychic damage, an Advantage on mental Saving Throws, half damage from Psychic, and cannot be Charmed.
4 Foebreaker
The Foebreaker is a powerful endgame two-handed maul. It is located in the Sorcerous Sundries vault during Act 3. This is the same place you would go to fully unlock the secrets of Ancient Tomes. However, in this case, you aim to get into Karsus’ vault instead of Elminster’s. You want to enter the rooms in order of Silverhand, Abjuration, Silver, press a switch, and then double back into Karsus’ room.
Foebreaker is a +2 Maul. It deals bludgeoning damage like most blunt weapons but also bypasses such resistance on an enemy. This makes it a great weapon if you don’t want to carry a backup to defeat certain monsters. Additionally, the weapon has the Tenacity skill, which deals five damage even on a miss.
3 The Blood of Lathander
The Blood of Lathander is a deity-blessed Mace found at the tail end of Act 1. You must explore the lost Rosymorn Monastery as part of Lae’zel’s personal questline. There are four Ceremonial weapons to collect that will unlock a stained glass puzzle. This will grant the Dawnmaster’s Crest. Travel to the bottom of the Githyanki Kreche to find the Blood of Lathander inside the Daybreak Chamber. Inserting the crest will safely unlock the weapon. However, you can also opt to steal the weapon, which will destroy the chapel and everyone inside. Even recruited teammates may be crushed in the chaotic escape.
For an early-game weapon, the Blood of Lathander is a powerhouse. It is a +3 enchanted Mace, making it easily wieldable by most classes. It shines a bright light that Blinds undead and fiends that come close. This extra light source is invaluable during Act 2, where walking in the darkness of the Shadow-Cursed Lands can cause damage. When you are about to die, the weapon will restore 2-12 hitpoints, and all close-by allies heal 1-6 hitpoints.
2 Nyrulna
Nyrulna is a legendary spear from Chult. Under normal circumstances, the adventure does not take place at Chult and the Trackless Sea. However, in Act 3, complaining to Akabi, the Djinni from Rivington Circus will cause him to cast all sorts of terrible magic. This includes whisking a character away to a remote Chult jungle enclave. Ideally, have a stealthy character like Astarion do the complaining. He can then easily grab the Polearm without being noticed or attacked.
Nyrulna is a +3 Trident. The user gains an extra 3m per turn and no longer takes fall damage. The melee weapon also has the Zephyr Connection ability. The weapon will always return when thrown and cannot be disarmed. When thrown, it also deals 3-12 Thunder damage in a small radius. This makes it a fantastic weapon for a throwing Barbarian like Karlach.
1 Twist of Fortune
Twist of Fortune is a Morningstar carried by Gerringothe Thorm. She is found in Act 2 of Baldur’s Gate 3 at the Tollhouse. You may either fight her and various minions or convince her to end her own life. Just be sure that Gerringothe's corpse does not fall into the water or pits. Otherwise, the Twist of Fate will be lost forever.
The +1 Morningstar has Tenacity, meaning it will always deal damage on a miss. It also automatically rerolls 1s and 2s, but you must accept the new result. But the most important is Blood Money. This deals extra damage per every 300 gold on a target. At its base, it can deal serious damage to wealthy bosses. However, you can also reverse pickpocket and give hundreds of thousands of gold to a foe. It is possible to one-shot nearly every enemy with this method.
